Craft Storage | Craft Dictionary | Fiskars
Fiskars is a manufacturer of cutting tools that are well known in the Craft World. Their iconic item is the orange handled Fiskars scissors. This Finnish Company was created around the Fiskars ironwarks that grew up in the Pohja region of Finland in 1649. A quickly the area was famous for its high quality metal products. The Fiskars scissors were not created however until 1967 and were based on a traditional design. The orange colour came about as a result and was not intended as one of the original prototype colours. The machinist had an excess of orange already in his machine and so orange samples were included with the other colour prototype colours. It was instantly recognised that the orange was in fact a great colour and so Fiskars Orange was born. The Fiskars company is now a large mutli-national with a number of seperate arms but is well aware of its founding roots in high quality metal manufacture.
